The original cover price of $2.25 is still less than the Kindle version of today. Author Stephen Manes originally published it in 1983 via Avon Books, but it has been subsequently reprinted in 2012 for Kindle. I recently came across Video War, another work of fiction focused on arcades of the early 80s. The arcade references were enough to make me want to investigate time travel and venture back to the days of attract modes, tokens, and the best hangouts a kid could find! It's a quick read, but it has several interesting sub-plots all taking place against the backdrop of the 80s arcade. I'm not sure I even realized there was such a thing as video game fiction until I picked up Andy Hunt's Final Day at the Westfield Arcade. Video games and arcades don't really inspire reading, which is why we need more video game oriented fiction!
